Our Story
It all started with the search for a hypoallergenic breed that could keep up with our active lifestyle (running, hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping, etc.). After doing a lot of research on hypoallergenic breeds (due to allergies), we fell in love with the idea of Portuguese Water Dogs and started the search for a new family member. It wasn't long before we noticed the strict 'no breeding rights' rule that many breeders swore by. We weren't sure if we would really end up breeding, but coming from a family who bred Pomeranians as a child, we wanted to have the option. After a lot of searching, we eventually found a breeder who allowed us to have breeding rights, and a few months later our little Nala arrived.

Nala quickly became our whole world. She was full of energy and spunk, and besides the notorious shark teeth phase, she was a very naturally well-behaved and easy to train puppy. As we started taking her out on the town, we received so many compliments on her appearance and temperament, not to mention the fact that she was hypoallergenic. After acquiring a lot of information about the breeding process, we decided to do our part in preserving and sharing the Portuguese Water Dog breed, which led to the start of Pineview Porties.

To make sure our puppies acquired the traits and temperament befitting AKC standards, we started searching for a healthy male that would complement Nala's personality. We knew that our sister's kids had been constantly asking a puppy, so we called them one night and asked them if they would be interested in owning a stud for our breeding program. As another active family with 5 kids, they liked the idea of this sturdy, high energy breed that doesn't shed and agreed to join the Pineview Porties program. A couple months later their kids were surprised to open a Christmas present with a fluffy white puppy with big brown eyes named Bear. We felt that Bear's mostly white coat and fun-loving personality would produce some beautiful puppies with unique coats and lovable temperaments.

As she got older, Nala's favorite activities were swimming in the river and wrestling with her dog friend who lived next door. We would sit outside and watch them play for hours. We could see how much Nala enjoyed playing with other dogs, and we decided that we wanted Nala to have a little sister. We told our sister's family, and they decided to get another female as well. A few weeks later, Winnie and Luna joined the Pineview Porties family. Nala and Winnie live with the Glassfords in Spanish Fork, Utah. Bear and Luna live with the Andersons in Fountain Green, Utah. All of our dogs are raised in our homes and are treated like family. They fit into our lifestyles seamlessly and love to join us on all of our outdoor adventures (running, hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping, etc.). Despite their love for outdoor adventures, they know how to calm down in the house and are often found sprawled out while taking a nap. about the breed

The American Kennel Club describes Portuguese Water Dogs as "affectionate, athletic, and adventurous". Bred in Portugal to help fisherman retrieve nets, herd fish, send messages between ships, and guard boats, porties use their webbed feet to make swimming a breeze. These medium-sized dogs are covered with a coat of low-shedding, hypoallergenic curls, making them ideal for families with allergies. Their dense coat requires frequent brushing and regular professional grooming. Portuguese Water Dogs are known to be very smart and very 'biddable', meaning easy to train and eager to please. They do require lots of mental and physical stimulation and can get mischievous if left alone for too long. They are very devoted to their families and are often referred to as "velcro" or "shadow" dogs. They can be very mouthy as puppies, so they require lots of patience and positive training. There is so much more to learn about this amazing breed, so we strongly advise that you do your research and educate yourself about the Portuguese Water Dog breed before considering adopting one of our puppies.
